Spooky Night Sky Halloween Card with the Boo Crew

Hi friends, Rick here on the blog today to share a Halloween card that’s equal parts spooky and sweet. For this project, I paired the Boo Crew Stamp Set with the EIEIO Frame Die Set to create a glowing nighttime scene that feels festive and fun. Halloween is one of my favorite seasons to craft for because it gives me a chance to play with bold colors, moody backgrounds, and just the right touch of whimsy.

A Nighttime Background That Shines

To set the stage, I wanted a background that instantly felt like Halloween night. Blending Distress Oxide inks was the perfect choice for this card because the smooth transitions of color created that glowing look of a twilight sky. A few flicks of water added texture and gave the illusion of stars twinkling in the distance. I still get excited every time I lift those droplets and the sky transforms—it feels a little like watching a magic trick unfold.

Pro Tip: If you’re ever unsure about your ink blending, don’t worry. Once you add water flicks, it softens any harsh lines and gives the background a natural, dreamy look.

Building the Spooky Scene

The Boo Crew Stamp Set includes a wonderfully detailed gate and tree image that made the perfect focal point for my background. Stamped in crisp black, it framed the scene and brought that extra bit of Halloween drama. I love using strong images like this because they do so much of the work for you. Instead of layering multiple die cuts, one well-placed stamp can create instant depth and atmosphere.

The Boo Crew in Action

Of course, the stars of this card are the Boo Crew critters. I stamped and colored three of them, keeping the coloring simple so the night sky could stay the main focus. After fussy cutting them out, I lined them up at the gate, ready for a little trick-or-treat adventure. It reminded me of going door to door as a kid, where half the fun was showing off your costume before even collecting candy.

Pro Tip: When your background is dramatic, let the images be simple. It keeps the whole card from feeling overwhelming and helps the scene come together more cohesively.

Finishing Touches for Extra Fun

To complete the card, I added a stamped “Trick or Treat” sentiment above the gate and layered on a die cut “BOO” for a bold finishing touch. A few glow-in-the-dark embellishments made the design interactive, while white gel pen highlights added a little extra detail to the critters. On the inside, I carried the theme through with another sentiment and two more Boo Crew friends—a snail and spider all dressed up as ghosts. It’s such a fun surprise when you open the card and discover that extra bit of Halloween whimsy.

Final Thoughts

What I love about this design is the balance—it’s spooky enough to feel like Halloween but playful enough to make anyone smile. The Boo Crew Stamp Set and EIEIO Frame Die Set work so beautifully together to create a card that looks detailed but comes together without stress. If you’re looking to add a little Halloween magic to your next project, these products are a great place to start.
