Bright Side Card

Bright Side Card

Hello there, I have a new technique for you today, watercolor painting on black watercolor paper.  I love galaxy backgrounds and wanted to see if I could make one so that I could use the lovely sentiment in the In The Dark stamp set from Miss Ink Stamps.  I added my favorite stamp set from the collection the Alice stamp to create a comforting scene.

Recently, 100% recycled black watercolor paper came out (Hero Arts) and I tried to make a little time to try it out.  I tried distress oxide inks, gouache paint and pearl watercolors from Kuretake.  Unfortunately the distress oxide inks looked extremely faded, but the gouache paint and the pearl watercolors worked well!  Today I'm only sharing the gem watercolor panel I made.  I hope to do a video at some point for Miss Ink recreating this card.

I used the yellow, purple & blue gem colors with a lot of water onto dry watercolor paper; below is a perfect comparison of the before and after. In retrospect, I think that I should have a few more black spaces, but I know that now for next time!  I then spritzed the entire panel with more pearl powder in water (self made) and using my brush, blended all the edges of the colors together to create a seemless look.  I set the panel to the side to dry for a few hours and then splattered white acrylic paint onto it and then let it dry again before die cutting it with a rectangle stitched die (Lawn Fawn).

Next I stamped onto navy cardstock the sentiment from the In The Dark stamp set with Versamark Ink and then heat embossed with Gina K white embossing powder. I die cut the sentiment with another rectangle stitched die that I had and adhered it onto the watercolor panel.  I chose to use the same color cardstock as the background panel of the card and adhered the watercolor panel onto it. I die cut a dark green cardstock with the same stitched rectangle panel as I had used for the watercolor panel; this was then cut with a grass border that I had in my stash.  I stamped and fussy cut Alice and the cheshire cat from the Alice stamp set and then simply colored with in with copics (Y21, YR21, B63, B60 for Alice and R00 & V22 for the cat).

Thank you so much for stopping by- I wish you a crafty day!
