Custom Mushy Sentiments

Custom Mushy Sentiments

Hello Friends! Emily here (@popsofpaper) and today I’m sharing a simple way to stretch your stamp sets by creating your own sentiments.

I love a good pun; especially on a handmade card. The Smokin’ Caterpillar Stamp Set as part of the Alice collection has some great Storybook sentiments, but I really wanted the mushrooms to stand on their own with mushroom inspired punny sentiments. So what’s a crafty girl to do? I could hunt my stamp collection for a fungi kinda sentiment or I could type up some punny sentiments (I went with “Thank you so Mush” and ”I Really Mush You”) on a Google Doc, pick a fun font, set the font size to 16 points and print a sheet of sentiments on my home printer. After I printed the sentiments, I adhered the printout to a piece of white cardstock using my Nuvo Jumbo Adhesive pen. Then I trimmed the sentiments into sentiment strips and cut a slightly larger sentiment strip from black cardstock for a framed effect.

For my two cards, I stamped the mushroom images with VersaFine Clair ink and then colored the images with Copic Markers in the following colors: R35,37,39; E30, 41, 70; BG10,11,13; YG21, 23, 25; V01, 04, 05, 06.

For the “Thanks So Mush”, I stamped the image to a circle die-cut and did some inlay die-cutting with an Essentials Circle die that I had in my stash. I also added some white gel pen polka dots around the blue circle border for a little extra pop. To finish the card, I added some whimsical black star embellishments and added the sentiment strip with foam squares.

For the the “I Really Mush You” Card, I stamped the mushroom image twice off the bottom edge of the card panel. I added the thin purple rectangle border with white gel pen polka dots to a white card base and then after coloring the mushrooms I adhered the stamped panel into the purple frame. For a little extra pop I added black and Champagne Stardust stars to the card. I then shared the sentiment strip to the card panel with foam squares.

So there we are friends, two cards with handmade sentiments that let me stretch the mushroom images from Smokin Caterpillar into cute and punny greeting cards. I hope you enjoyed my cards today and it inspires you to stretch your stamps in fun new ways!

Big Paper Hugs!

Emily
