Mixing It Up - Alcohol Ink Backgrounds

Mixing It Up - Alcohol Ink Backgrounds

I've been spending some time playing with my alcohol inks lately and trying out a few different techniques!  I thought this panel was perfect for the Streamers and Pinata Party stamp sets and coordinating dies!

I started by die cutting a panel of Etc Papers EVO paper which is perfect to use with alcohol inks!  I used some pink and yellow along with a bit of white and rose gold mixatives.  The hand blower from Ranger is perfect to move the inks around a bit along with some blending solution.  I like to let some areas stay pooled so that after a bit the pooled areas which are a little thicker remain a bit sticky while the rest of the panel is dry.

I always save my scraps of foil for a few different reasons... one of them being they are perfect to rub onto the sticky parts of an alcohol ink panel and they leave a wonderful gold leafed look.

For this one I decided a little extra texture would be fun.  I took a piece of terry cloth and applied a little 70% isopropyl alcohol to it and then blotted it onto the panel in various areas... just hold for the count of three or so and the wetter it is the more ink it will lift.  This just left a cool kind of dotted texture on the background.

I love the shimmer the foil gives, and the way the alcohol gives the background a bit of fun distressed texture!

I stamped, die cut and colored all of my images and that awesome celebrate word die and added them to the panel with various thicknesses of foam tape.  I'll be honest... I created my background first and then decided which stamps I would use and these colors gave me quite the party feel!

And that's me for today!  I hope you enjoyed your visit and you're inspired to pull out your alcohol inks!  I'll be playing with these all month and trying some different things!

Thanks for coming and come again soon!
