Mixing It Up - Stencils and Glitter and Doodads Oh My!

Mixing It Up - Stencils and Glitter and Doodads Oh My!

Welcome!  Happy Valentines Day!  I don't have a Valentine for you... but my project IS all about the love... of creating!  I've been making a bit of a mess in my craft room and it's been so much fun!  I've prepared this Mixed Media Canvas for you today using some stencils, Dazzle Dust and new embellishments available in the shop!  (Along with a few other things!)

I started by painting my canvas black.  I wanted the undertones of what I put on top to be dark and also, I don't mind so much if the black shows through.. as you can see, when I paint, I don't take great care to make it perfect.  After the black I covered it with a layer of the metallic teal color and then while that was still wet I swiped in some of the metallic gold.  Then when that was (mostly) dry... I'm not very patient... I placed my favorite Circular Harlequin Stencil over it and painted over it with some more of the gold metallic paint.  I set it all aside to dry up real good as I worked on some other things.

I ran the Love die from Trinity Stamps through my Gemini with some Mixed Media paper.  I used that because it's heavier and I knew I'd be applying some stuff to it.  I started with some Viva Rusty Paper paint.  I just rubbed it on with my fingers and didn't worry much about applying it evenly.  It dries quickly and then I used one of my favorite new items, an Emboss It Dabber from Ranger to apply some embossing ink to the bottom half of the letters and sprinkled on some Ranger Mixed Media Powder in Sea color and heated it up.

I knew I needed some embellishments to give the Love a little weight and found the perfect chipboard shapes, but they were white glitter covered!  So, I covered one in the Rusty Paper paint and the other was quickly embossed with some more of the Mixed Media Powder and then they were perfect!

Now my canvas was dry and ready for the next layer!  I poured some Pretty Peacock Dazzle Dust into a little jar and added a little Glossy Accents at a time and mixed with my spatula until I had a nice glitter paste.  I applied that over the top of my other layers using the Diamond Fade Stencil 3.

And the best part is!!  The Color Shift... this is such a pretty one... the Pretty Peacock goes from green to teal to blue...

Gorgeous right??

Then I added some extra glitter paste all over.. smooshed some on the flowers.. on the bottom of the Love and chipboard pieces and just in general in various places on the canvas.

You can really see the green in the Dazzle Dust Diamond Fade there... and finally I added some of those beautiful Watercolor Butterflies and another new favorite the Peacock Jewels!!

Whew!  That was quite the ride wasn't it??  I had SO much fun with this one... got real messy... still have a bit of cleanup to do, but no worries!  I already washed my stencils you can see and the paint and glitter paste came right off with just a little warm water!

Thank you SO much for sticking with me!  I know that was a lot but I hope you enjoyed it.  Hope you have fun in your craft room today!  Come back soon for some more Miss Ink Inspiration!
