Step Up Your Cardmaking with Brenda - Pop Up Box

Hello, crafty friends!! I hope your week is off to a great start!!

Brenda here with another project in the "Step Up Your Cardmaking" series!! You may have seen the first version on my IG last Saturday, but today I will show you how to elevate it a bit!! While I usually create traditional A2 size cards, it's nice to create something "out of the box"!! (See what I did there? Ha!)

Let's get started!!

I began by stamping the images from Queen of Hearts, Queen's Castle and Painting the Roses with InkOn3 Blackout Detail Ink. I colored the images with Copic markers and then fussy cut them out. The colors that I used were:

  • Red - RV69, RV29, RV14, RV13, RV10
  • Green - YG01, YG13, YG17, YG67
  • Skintone - E04, E02, E00
  • Brown - E35, E37, E39
  • Gold - E15, YR23, Y17, Y02
  • Gray - N0, N1, N2, N3, N5, N6, N7
  • Blue - B000, B00

For the card, I ink-blended Tumbled Glass, Twisted Citron and Pine Needles Distress Oxide Ink onto a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I trimmed the panel a bit and added it to a panel of black cardstock.

The sentiment, from Queen of Hearts, was white heat embossed onto a black cardstock strip. The colored images and sentiment strip were adhered with a combination of liquid adhesive and foam tape. A white gel pen adds some highlights to the images.

For the pop-up box, I started by stamping and fussy cutting the same images. I used the Honey Bee A2 Surprise Box Card Base to cut the elements for the box from green, red, black and white cardstocks. I have also seen tutorials online to create your own box, if you don't have a pop-up die.

Before adhering the box together, I white heat embossed the sentiment from Queen of Hearts onto one of the black pieces, using some creative masking.

I adhered the box together, as shown above, and added the "stilts" to the images. I adhered the images by gluing the "stilts" to the green inserts in the box. A couple of the roses were adhered around the sentiment.

This folds flat to fit into an envelope!! I think it's sure to make the recipient smile!!

Here's a close-up...

Thanks so much for joining me today!! Have a great week!!
